Team
At SAGA, we offer the XCEL program up to Level GOLD, providing athletes with a flexible and comprehensive path to develop their skills at a pace that suits their individual abilities. The XCEL program focuses on building a solid foundation in gymnastics while allowing for a balance between commitment and enjoyment. Once athletes reach Level GOLD, they have the opportunity to take their training to the next level. They can continue progressing in the XCEL program by moving into the Platinum level, where they will refine their skills and tackle more advanced routines. Alternatively, athletes can transition to our more competitive Developmental Program (DP) optionals, where they will work on higher-level skills in preparation for more intense competitions. Our goal is to ensure every athlete has the support and opportunity to thrive, whether they continue with XCEL or pursue the higher-level challenges of DP. Here's more information about both programs:
XCEL
The XCEL program in gymnastics is a flexible competitive path designed for athletes who want to compete but may not be looking for the full commitment of the traditional gymnastics route. Think of it as a way for gymnasts to participate in competitions while allowing for more personal choice and less intense time commitments.
Athletes in the XCEL program learn and perform a variety of skills on events like bars, beam, floor, and vault. What makes XCEL unique is that it’s more about personal progression and achieving goals at different levels, from Bronze (beginner) to Gold (advanced). As gymnasts improve their skills, they have the option to move up to higher levels, like Platinum, or they can choose to switch to the more competitive and specialized Developmental Program (DP) for even more advanced training.
This program is great for athletes who want to challenge themselves and compete, but it offers more flexibility in how they train and progress compared to traditional gymnastics programs.
Developmental Program (DP)
The Developmental Program (DP) in gymnastics is a more advanced competitive path designed for gymnasts who want to push themselves to their highest potential and compete at a higher level. It’s for athletes who are ready to dedicate more time and effort to their training, as they focus on mastering complex skills and routines across all events: vault, bars, beam, and floor.
In the DP program, gymnasts follow a structured progression, working their way through levels that increase in difficulty as they refine their technique. The goal is to prepare them for more serious competitions, including state, regional, and national events. The DP program requires a higher level of commitment, both in terms of training hours and mental focus, but it offers athletes the chance to achieve elite-level gymnastics skills and compete with some of the best gymnasts in the country. It’s perfect for those who have a passion for gymnastics and want to reach their fullest potential in the sport.
